Barbara Morgan honored by McCall Donnelly Schools

Former McCall teacher Barbara Morgan and NASA astronaut got a tour recently of the school that will bear her name. Morgan got a close look at the elementary school under construction in McCall that was named earlier in the day as Barbara R. Morgan Elementary School. In the tour, she said and knew right away she wanted to return to teach at the school. After the tragedy of space shuttle Challenger, Morgan was named Christa McAullife's replacement and began a 21-year journey that culminated in her 13-day flight on the space shuttle Endeavour in August.

Mardi Gras Parade ready to receive entries

McCall Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tamara Sandmeyer will chair the 2008 Mardi Gras Parade, which will march through downtown McCall on Saturday, January 26. Sandmeyer will pair up with parade emcee Dennis Ackermann, who has been part of the McCall Winter Carnival for many years, including being past parade master of ceremonies to building snowsculptures for local businesses. Yellow Pine Harmonica Festival at The McCall Winter Carnival!

The 2007 Yellow Pine Harmonica Festival will take place after all, except it will happen in 2008 and take place during the McCall Winter Carnival. The harmonica festival, which was cancelled in August due to forest fires in the region, will be held Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1-2 at The Pancake and Christmas House. Harmonica players, musicians and groups from all over the country will be in town for the two-day affair that will mirror most of the events that were supposed to take place last summer. Community Christmas Concert

The 11th Annual McCall Community Christmas Carol-Along will feature a banquet of sounds this year. It will be held two nights: Sunday December 9 at 6pm and Monday December 10 at 7pm at The McCall Congregational United Church of Christ at First and Park Streets. The concerts are free, and will include the adult choir, the children's choir, The Tuesday Brass Quintet and will feature organist Dr. Andrew Goodman, an assistant professor of Music at Boise State University. This event is sponsored by the congregational church, The Second Sunday Sounds at Six Series, The McCall Music Society, The Idaho Academy of Music and private donors.
